DW TV Asia+ on a new transponder on Asiasat-3S |

Germany’s international broadcaster DW TV Asia + has been switched to a new transponder on satellite Asiasat-3S. Now both DW TV Asia+ and DW TV Asien are available on one transponder, 4 H with same parameters. New parameters are: Frequency-3760, SR-26000, FEC- 7/8, Polarity-H. The change has been effective from November 22, 2010. |

OMM has acquired Landing Rights for DW TV Asia+ in Pakistan |

Open Media Marketing (Pvt) Limited has acquired Landing Rights license for its principals “DW TV Asia +” in Pakistan. OMM is now authorized to distribute this TV channel in Pakistan. PEMRA chairman, Mushtaq Malik awarded the license to CEO of Open Media, Nadeem Wahid Siddiqui at a ceremony in Islamabad. |

Radio Smile FM 88.6 launched |

A new FM radio station, Smile Radio FM-88.6 has started transmission from Haripur city of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa province. It is first radio from this historic city located at famous Karakorum Highway (KKH), leading to China. CEO of Radio Smile, Shaikh Wasim Ahmed says Smile Radio will boost socio-cultural image of the region. |

DW signs MoU for cooperation with UOG FM |

Deutsche Welle has signed an MoU with the Campus Radio of University of Gujrat, FM-106.6 to cooperate in broadcasting fields. The university radio will rebroadcast selected programs of DW Radio in Urdu and English languages. The Vice Chancellor, Dr. Prof. Muhammad Nizamuddin signed the agreement at university campus in Gujrat during visit of the country representative of DW in Pakistan, Nadeem W. Siddiqui. |

PEMRA still holds ban on satellite TV licenses |

Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority is yet to lift ban on issuance of new licenses for satellite TV channels in Pakistan. The ban was imposed a year ago on the name of evaluation of the performance of existing licensees. Media experts believe PEMRA may adopt open bidding procedure for satellite TV licensing in future which will eventually result in shooting up license fee. |

List of authorized channels in Pakistan released |

PEMRA has issued a list of ‘authorized TV channels’ in Pakistan. The authority has asked all the cable TV operators and rebroadcast platforms to strictly follow the orders of the authority. Dish TV gains popularity in Pakistan |

Dish TV, a DTH of India, is gaining popularity in Pakistan after issuance of list of authorized channels by PEMRA. Most of popular Indian channels are not included in the list as they have not acquired landing permission under PEMRA regulations. Sources close to satellite TV industry indicate rise in sale of Dish TV as more than double in first two months after the release of PEMRA list. |

Dunya TV celebrated two years of launch |

Pakistan’s popular news channel “Dunya TV” celebrated completion of two years of its launch on 1st of December 2010. Prime Minister of Pakistan, Yousaf Raza Gillani was the chief guest at celebration event in Islamabad, attended by large number of media elites. Dunya TV will soon launch its entertainment channel. |

Global Media Forum – 2011 |

The next Global Media Forum by Deutsche Welle will be held in Bonn, Germany from 20th to 22nd June 2011. “Human rights and globalization – challenges to the media” is the theme of the Global Media Forum 2011. For the fourth GMF more than 1,300 participants are expected, from around the world. Several media experts from Pakistan also attended GMF in 2010. |
